The movie “The
Expendables” is currently on the circuit, starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason
Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis and
Arnold Schwarzenegger as members of an elite group.
If you’re familiar with
these men, and they’re getting together to make a movie, you know they’re not
going to knit booties, they’re going to kick bootie, and in The Expendables they
do plenty of that.
Watching the movie, I
wondered why the army didn’t consult Sylvester Stallone on a strategy to invade
Iran and Afghanistan. If he and his
cronies got involved, those Middle Easterners would be sorted out in no
time. No soldiers would have to risk
their lives and the government would save themselves millions of dollars.
The difference between
the army and the expendables is that the latter doesn’t play by the rules. Human rights?
What human rights? They come
across the bad guys, they do away with the bad guys. No mess, no fuss. Well, actually there’s plenty of mess, but
the bottom line is they get the job done.
In case you’re wondering
how much a bunch of over the hill men can accomplish ... you’d be
surprised. Stallone moves like a
gazelle, when Statham fights it’s like watching ballet, and what Crews misses
in speed he makes up for in choice of weapon.
He doesn’t just carry a gun, he carries a GUN. It doens’t matter if he hits or misses, the
noise of this baby alone is enough to send any bad guy running.
As for the villain,
played by fellow countryman Jean-Claude Van Damme ... he may be bad, but he’s
got style. Dressed in black, sporting
the coolest sunglasses, he might have aged since “Kickboxer”, but he still
kicks with the best of them.
If you’ve seen The
Expendables, The Expendables 2 is a must see.
Action, suspense and a good dose of humor.
The Expendables? More like ... The Indispensables.
