When not to edit your writing

There is a time and place for everything and editing your work is no exception.  Writing is a creative process and should be practiced with the least possible interruptions.  Editing while writing can have a disruptive and negative effect on the creative flow of thoughts and as such should be avoided.

How to make a good impression during a job interview

Making a good first impression is all about good manners.  Good manners demand that you know how to dress for any occasion and how to behave.

It stands to reason that you would dress and behave differently for a job interview than you would for a cocktail party.

Just as you would not show up for a job interview in a short little black dress and glittery sandals, neither would you show up at a cocktail party in jeans and boots.

Seven winter skin care solutions

Winter is no picnic for dry skin.  Wind and sub-zero temperatures may cause it to become and tight.  Young people may breeze through winter without a care in the world, but for mature women it may be quite different.  If your skin can do with a little help, the following are seven winter skin care solutions.

Why women need multiple pairs of shoes

It might be complicated for some men to understand why women buy multiple pairs of shoes, but it makes perfect sense to women.  A variety of shoes is needed for a variety of reasons.  The number one reason being, women need them.

Imagine wearing flat brown shoes under brown trousers ... a stylish combination.  Now imagine wearing those some flat brown shoes under a black pencil skirt ... a fashion disaster. Shoes need to be coordinated with the outfit.

My cats' reaction to a fire drill

We had our monthly fire drill yesterday. In theory everybody in the building has to do down to a gathering point in the garden; in practice nobody leaves their units. It was -35 deg C (-31 deg F) … do you really think people were keen to go outside? So basically we just had to put up with a lot of noise.

While I knew what was going on, the cats had no clue and as such suffered a certain amount of anxiety. Although, “suffered” is pushing it a bit.

The photos you’re about to see are old, but they are a true reflection of how Charlotte, Mickey, Gabriel, Chanel and Holly behaved during the fire drill.

This makes my blood boil

Some people make me sick. There’s this guy on Facebook, who is on welfare. He posted today that he wants to upgrade his computer and that this was going to cost him between 600 to 700 Euros ($852 to $994)

I responded to him that upgrading an old computer is a waste of money. I recently looked at laptop computers and found a very nice machine for just under $500 (453 Euros).

He commented that he doesn’t want a normal PC or laptop, the wants a state-of-the-art machine to play games.

My jaw dropped. He’s a man on welfare and a normal computer isn’t good enough for him! He DEMANDS a state-of-the-art machine to PLAY GAMES!!!

The importance of writing in our lives

When a child learn to write the letters A to Z, he has no idea the impact the ability to write has on his life.  He can write notes, letters, journals, stories and in due time a resume to pursue a career.  Writing is so much more though.  Where it comes to creative writing, ask yourself, why is writing important?

For all the singles on Valentine's Day

For countless single men and women, Valentine’s Day looms like a dark grey cloud on the horizon.
Throughout the year they can handle being single, enjoy it even, but on Valentine’s Day they are suddenly confronted with the fact that they don’t have that special person in their life.

Dishonest publishers – Part II – What Would You Have Done?

Royalties are a delicate detail of publishing. You either trust your publisher, or you don’t.

For the longest time I trusted my publisher (Rosa) completely, I never doubted for a moment that she didn’t pay all that was due. But then something strange happened …

Dishonest publishers – Part I – What Would You Have Done?

A micro publisher (let’s call her Rosa) lashed out at her authors yesterday, with a post on Facebook, that some authors are an ungrateful bunch. She implied that they didn’t do enough to promote their work and as such didn’t generate enough profit.

She stated that she invests a $1,000 in each book she publishes. The rant went on and on, but what stuck with me most was the investment of a $1,000. What the heck constituted such an amount?

Getting through Valentine's Day

Being alone again is not easy and going through a breakup shortly before Valentine’s Day makes it all the worse.
There is no need to feel blue though, on the contrary, use this day to celebrate your independence.

First and foremost, get out of the house.  Don’t curl up with chocolates, a romantic movie or sad music.  You don’t want to depress yourself even more, do you?  Rather grab your credit card, throw caution to the wind and spoil yourself a little.  After what you’ve been through, you deserve it.
