How to make an Easter basket

On Easter morning, children get out of bed eager to find out what the Easter bunny has brought them.  However, receiving something special is not just for children, adults enjoy giving and receiving too.

To create a themed Easter basket all you need is knowledge of the person you want to give the basket to and then go shopping.

A basket does not even have to be a traditional wicker basket, it can be anything: a flower pot, a soup bowl, a glass container, a baking tray, or even a laundry basket.

If the ‘basket’ is wrapped in cellophane, held together by pink or yellow ribbon and decorated with a few Easter eggs or flowers, it will not only be original but beautiful.

How to marbleize Easter eggs

Have you ever wondered how the makers gave marbleized Easter eggs that marble motive?  How they did it.  This year you can impress your family and friends with marbleized Easter eggs and let them wonder how you did it.

Homemade Easter Decorations

Just as millions of people decorate their homes for Christmas, so does Easter ask for creating a little atmosphere for the occasion.  To be original or to save money, you can make Easter decorations yourself.  It is fun, it is easy and it is something to do with the kids.

Most of what is needed you will already have around the house and where it comes to fun little projects like this, there will be no shortage of eager little hands to help either.

Our daily bread

Recently I started making my own bread. Some might wonder why go to all that trouble. After all, I can just go to the store and pick up a bread, conveniently sliced.

Is anything and everything allowed these days

I was in a bowling alley over the weekend where I noticed a girl (she’s couldn’t have been more than 16) breast-feeding a baby.

Men were ogling her, women didn’t quite know where to look, and children to see as much as possible. And I wondered, when did it become socially acceptable to put it all out there?

Doorman wanted

With the rise of temperatures, I decided to let the cats out. The poor things have been cooped up since November and were in desperate need of some fresh air.

As soon as Holly heard the balcony door opening, she came charging through the living room and went nose first into the screen door. Apparently she’d forgotten that in addition to a glass door, the balcony has a screen door with netting.

Holly was followed by Mickey, Gabriel, Chanel and Charlotte. That Charlotte went out came as a bit of a surprise to me, because in general Charlotte is not a fan of the great outdoors.

Having the balcony door open felt a little chilly for me though, so I closed it. No sooner was the door closed or the door games started.

Mickey wanted to come in.
Gabriel wanted to come in.
Mickey wanted to go out.
Chanel wanted to come in.
Mickey wanted to come in.
Charlotte wanted to come in.
Mickey wanted to go out.

While the cats went in and out, and in and out, it was up and down and up and down for me. Every time I sat down, someone wanted to come in or go out. These cats needed a doorman.

After a while I decided to ignore Chanel, who would sit by the door, waiting to go out yet again. When I remained seated, she turned with bedroom eyes and a look that said … “Pleeeeeeeease.” Oh alright them, and I was up again.

Ignoring Mickey, who wanted to come in wasn’t possible either. If I took too long getting up, he would meow as if to say … “Hurry up already!”

All things considered, Gabriel was the least trouble. He was happy to sit by the door and sniff the fresh air.

Toronto Cat Rescue Bowl-a-thon

The object of a blog post is to be informative or funny, and usually I try to do one or the other or even both. However, today is an exception … today’s subject is the Toronto Cat Rescue and there’s nothing funny about that organization.

Kitchen Disasters

I’ve chartered into unfamiliar territory today … I’m baking bread. I’ve wanted to do this for quite some time now, but I was scared.

Scared you might think, what is there to be scared about? Well, let me tell you two stories and you’ll understand why I’m not exactly to be trusted around an oven.

The perils of public transportation

Don’t let me ever hear someone complaining about the price of gas. Whether the price is $1, $2 or even $3 a liter, be glad to pay it because it means you have a car.

Personally I don’t have a car and have to rely on public transportation to take me wherever I want to go.
Usually, this is not a problem. To go downtown I take the subway and I quite enjoy the ride. It gives me plenty of time to read without any interruptions.

Yesterday, however, I didn’t enjoy taking public transportation at all. I would even go as far as to say it was and experience straight from hell.
